Delicious, Lightweight, Just Add Water

If you are getting ready to go camping for a weekend or going on an all day adventure, you should carefully plan what you will eat once you arrive. I get SO hungry on the trail, and by the time camp is set up, I could eat a three course dinner. Unfortunately being miles away from home, in the middle of a forest that is not really an option. Personally, I do not like eating peanut butter sandwiches, or ramen noodles all the time enough to only bring those in my pack. Most canned foods are way too heavy, and will only leave more trash to carry. Assuming you are following the rules and not leaving your trash behind :). You need something lightweight, freeze dried is usually the way to go. I never really thought a freeze dried meal would taste like a homemade, authentic, hearty dinner.

When I tried Mountain House brand of freeze dried Chicken Fried Rice with veggies, I was WOWED! It only called for two cups of boiling water, which was very easy since our campsite was next to the Middle Saluda River. The water comes from natural springs throughout the upstate mountains of South Carolina, and lower mountains of North Carolina. After adding the water, we sealed the bag shut for about ten minutes, opened it to stir, and closed it back for another ten minutes. When Derek and I opened the package we were beyond grateful for what we saw. Long grain rice, white meat chicken, scrambled eggs, onions, mushrooms, green peas, red peppers, and carrots!! It looked like homemade Chinese takeout!! We grabbed our spoons, and after the first bite, we could not eat it fast enough. One package was 2.5 servings and 11 grams of protein, it was perfect for the two of us, we even saved some for a snack later on.

We also bought a Chili Mac that was equally as tasty, we stopped at the last campsite while hiking our way out of Caesars Head, made a fire, boiled the water, and by the time I had Rocky fed and hydrated our meal was ready. It can almost compete with my homemade chili beans (which is to die for btw!) These meals are really affordable, and high quality, which is what I always look for.
There will be a link at the bottom of the page to follow so you can try these meals for yourself!!!

Homemade ingredients, easy to pack,  prepare, and delicious to eat

Top 5 Mistakes to AVOID this Summer

We all make mistakes, but when you are hiking, or going camping, mistakes can be deadly. Anything from wearing the wrong shoes, to not having enough clean water to drink can be inconvenient at home, but in the woods it can turn into a matter of life and death. Here is my life of top 5 mistakes to AVOID this summer. 5. Over/Under Packing When getting ready to go on a hike it can be so easy to cram a weeks worth of stuff into your pack, even if you are only going for a day or two. Extra clothes, that really cute sun hat you never get to wear, towels, extra shoes etc can all add weight to your pack that you don't need or want on a long hike. While you may think it is worth the extra weight in your pack, your back and neck will be hating you for it later. Packing light and only bringing the necessities can be scary at first, but once you realize you don't NEED all of that stuff,  you will find yourself less tired and sore than you would with a heavier bag. ...

To Tent Or Not To Tent

I have always been a tent camper, I like having some space to sit up, stretch out, and be able to still move around once the sun has gone down. There is a sense of security inside the tent once it is zipped up that I found comforting the first time I went camping, so I stuck with it. That being said, the past two or three times I have slept in my cozy tent, my body has hated me for it the next day. It can be very difficult to find perfectly flat ground, then I have to clear the spot of any rocks, tree limbs and debris that will be in my way. It is just a lot of extra work that I do not enjoy.  Although once everything is all set up, I have a spacious home away from home. Its especially nice when having friends along because we can all hunker down in the tent together if it starts raining or gets too cold. I love taking my dogs camping too, the thought of leaving them somewhere gives me anxiety, so being able to have them in the tent next to me is a plus as well. There are SO man...

LEGENDARY FEMALE PIRATE

Anne Bonny (left) and Mary Read (right) Anne Bonny was born in Kinsale, Ireland around 1697, and was the illegitimate daughter of lawyer William Cormac and his maid Marry Brennan. After William's wife made this news public, his reputation was ruined, so he left Ireland for a fresh start in the New World. He settled with his new family in Charleston, South Carolina where he started a new legal career, and bought a plantation. Anne's mother died in her late teens, and she had to take care of her father's household. There are many stories about Anne's teen years, claiming she murdered a servant girl with a knife, and another about a man she put in the hospital for attempting to sexually assault her. When Anne was sixteen years old, she fell in love with a pirate, James Bonny. Anne's father was against the relationship, but she married James anyways. William disowned Anne, and this is when Anne Bonny's life changed forever. James took his new wife to New Prov...
